You are a successful entrepreneur, and one way you can give back is to share your story. You can inspire other entrepreneurs and those aspiring to be entrepreneurs to know that with passion and hard work, it is possible to live the dream of an entrepreneur.
Think of your personal story as a bio, except in first person and with a “WOW!” factor. Ideally, the story includes three sections—igniting the flame, making it happen, and taking stock. Following are some guidelines:
- IGNITING THE FLAME: The story should begin with energy. Start with something interesting or intriguing that illustrates what got you going, who inspired you, what events triggered your actions or other things that helped launch you.
- MAKING IT HAPPEN: How did you turn your ideas into a successful reality? You might tell of adversity, challenges, and triumphs along the path. Include dialogue and express yourself so that the reader feels the emotions of your incredible life experiences. This is not the time to be humble or to hide your setbacks. Failures followed by successes are extremely inspiring to a reader.
- TAKING STOCK: Where are you now and what might be the next steps along your entrepreneurial journey? What lessons have you learned and what are your life’s “take away” messages that both teach and inspire. Which of your characteristics do you feel were key success factors?
How do you make your story worthwhile to others?
Here are some questions that can assure that your story might help others:
- When and how did you first know that you wanted to be an entrepreneur?
- How did you first get started in business?
- What specific people and events inspired you?
- What personal challenges have you successfully overcome? What external or business challenges have you successfully overcome?
- What failures and successes have you had? And what were your subsequent emotions.
- How do you give back and serve others?
- Which of your personal characteristics were keys to your success?
Start at any point in your life that you prefer. This story should be approximately 1000 words, but feel free to use the number of words it takes to adequately describe your story. You will receive an edited copy of your story for approval before it is published.
At the end of the story, please list key success factors, recommended books, website, information for the editor’s note and contact information. (Refer to format guidelines on first page)
